Karnataka, located in southern India is one of India’s most economically dynamic states. With a Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) estimated at ₹30.70 trillion in FY26, it ranks fourth nationally in terms of economic output. The backbone of Karnataka’s economy is its diverse sectoral composition. The services sector dominates, contributing to majority of the GSDP. Bengaluru, the state capital, is globally recognized as India’s Silicon Valley, hosting major tech giants both Indian and foreign.

This concentration of technology firms has positioned Karnataka as the largest software exporter in India. Karnataka also excels in manufacturing, biotechnology, aerospace, and heavy engineering. Agriculture remains vital, especially in rural areas, with Karnataka being a leading producer of coffee, raw silk, and horticultural crops. Karnataka has a diverse and dynamic industrial landscape. Karnataka is also a key player in the mining industry, boasting abundant reserves of iron ore and other minerals. The state has a strong presence in the handicrafts and cottage industries as well, reflecting its rich artisanal heritage. This varied industrial landscape, coupled with the state's strategic location and well-developed infrastructure, make Karnataka a preferred destination for domestic and international investors

In line with implementation of GST in India, the Bangalore CGST Zone came into existence with effect from 22.06.2017. The zone covers entire state of Karnataka for the purpose of GST Administration. For administrative convenience and for better taxpayer service, entire Zone is divided into 16 Commissionerates, which consist of 8 Executive Commissionerates namely Bangalore North, West, South, East, North-West, Belagavi, Mysore and Mangalore, along with 4 Appeals and 4 Audit Commissionerates. Executive Commissionerates are further divided into 65 Divisions. Bangalore CGST Zone with working strength of around 2500 officers/staff serves over 4.25 lakhs taxpayers. The new jurisdictions of GST (Central Tax), Karnataka has been notified vide TRADE NOTICE NO. 01/2017 Dated 20.06.2017-. The jurisdictions in Bengaluru City are based on PIN codes and for the rest of Karnataka, the jurisdictions of the new formations have been delineated relying on the respective areas under Municipal wards/Taluks.
